About Us

Who are we?

The Rosa Parks Foundation is a grassroots organization based in district 8 of Budapest promoting
inclusive and quality education for marginalized children.

RPF aims to ensure that all children have access to inclusive and quality education regardless of their
race, disability, and economic background.

RPF combines expertise in pedagogy, social work, and law supplemented with expertise from various
other fields through its network of volunteers.

RPF currently runs 3 different programs all focusing in promoting inclusive education with different
but interlinked tools and methods.

The Invisible Study Hall/ISH (LáthatatlanTanoda) program

The ISH is an after-school program operating in district 8 of Budapest. The ISH assists marginalized children to enroll to inclusive schools, and provides them after school activities to develop their skills. The ISH – through social work – assists families in all matters that affect the education and well-being of their children. The ISH is based on a network of volunteers. RPF pairs volunteer mentors with children so that they are provided one-to-one tutoring. This ensures that children are more successful in school and gain access to cultural and other activities otherwise unreachable for their families.

Legal Aid and advocacy on the right to inclusive education

RPF runs a legal aid program focusing on educational matters. We provide free legal advice to parents who experience difficulties in their children’s education in the following matters: enrolment and transfer to kindergartens and schools, complaints about the development of preschool and school children with special educational needs (SEN); access to inclusive and aptitude education; the procedure before the Committee of Experts assessing children’s learning abilities;segregation of Roma children in school; bullying, disciplinary matters; private learning issues.

RPF advocates for an equitable and quality education accessible for everyone without discrimination. For this end RPF provides legal training on educational matters for parents, volunteers and activists to empower them to enforce their children’s rights.

The “Civil support for inclusive education” program

The project is implemented by a consortium of three NGOs, the Rosa Parks Foundation, the Motivation Educational Association, and Partners Hungary Foundation. The main purpose of the project is to foster desegregation in selected localities and to promote inclusive education in schools that are the potential recipient institutions of Roma children. The project combines community work, professional capacity building, communication, and advocacy. The project aims to build a coalition among devoted civil society actors working in the field of promoting equal opportunities and inclusive education by testing a comprehensive intervention strategy and actions at those locations where we can find or identify any supporting stakeholders of inclusive education.
